Tips to Stop Dogs and Puppies From Chewing
Preventing inappropriate dog chewing is easy to do with the right approach and tools. First, imagine the world from your puppy's viewpoint and height level - see anything worth grabbing? Puppy proof your house by putting away enticing objects that can be moved and treating those that cannot be moved with a bitter spray. Second, provide the pup with something appropriate to chew on.
- Survey your residence for items that you would like to remain safe. Shoes, remote controls, and stuffed animals should all be placed in a location where they cannot be reached.
- Spray items that cannot be moved or put away with a bitter spray to discourage chewing.
- Give him chew toys and reward him for chewing on the right items.
- Avoid rawhides for young dogs because a) they expand when eaten and can create intestinal blockage if too much is eaten and b) they resemble leather, thereby reinforcing any tendency your dog has in that direction.

Keep your Puppy from Chewing on the Wrong Thing
If you catch your dog or puppy chewing on an inappropriate object, take the following steps to correct his behavior.
- Get his attention and offer him an appropriate toy.
- Praise him when he accepts the correct item and chews on it.
- Scan again for items within reach that should not be.
