How To Stop Dogs From Barking |
Excessive Barking Defined
So your dog has a lot to say? Problem barking is generally defined as barking constantly for a period of half an hour or more. Most barking occurs while the owner is away, leaving the owner (you) with a false idea that his/her dog doesn't bark at all. Leave a tape recorder on to see how much your dog barks when you are not at home. |
Why Do Dogs Bark?
As natural as talking is to humans, so is barking to your dog or puppy. Barking is a very normal canine behavior but you can teach your dog the proper time for such vocalizations.
Dogs and puppies have a lot of energy and they need an outlet for it. Plenty of exercise is the best remedy. Putting your dog out in the yard, no matter how large it is, is not really exercise. Your dog needs a nice long walk and plenty of one-on-one play time. A dog left out in the yard may bark because he can hear other dogs and people, but never gets any kind of socialization with them.
